Home Automation

This is one of many exciting applications for the InfraMIDI Equator. Here, we branch out of the more common multimedia applications of the InfraMIDI Equator and concentrate on its automation capabilities. Anything controllable from an infrared (IR) remote control can be controlled by the Equator. Let's start with lighting. I know what you're thinking: "none of my lights are infrared controllable!" That's almost correct, but not quite. In true multimedia fashion, we're going to mix up a few technologies which will bring your plug-in-the-wall & light switch lighting under control of the InfraMIDI Equator.

MATERIALS REQUIRED
• Lamp or ceiling fixture with wall switch to be controlled with ON, OFF, or FADE
• X-10 Lamp module or X-10 wall switch
• X-10 Infrared IR Command Center
• X-10 IR Command Center remote control
• Epigraf InfraMIDI Equator MIDI to Infrared transceiver
• MIDI cable
• MIDI controller (most likely a computer but could just as easily be a MIDI sequencer or keyboard)

CONNECTIONS REQUIRED
• Connect the OUTPUT of the MIDI controller (the computer or MIDI sequencer) to the INPUT of the InfraMIDI Equator.
• Install the X-10 module as per the directions included with the unit. Simply unplug the desired lamp and plug it into the X-10 module. Plug the X-10 module into the wall power outlet.
• Plug the X-10 IR Command Center into a nearby wall power outlet. The X-10 IR Command Center can now make the controlled lamp turn ON, OFF, or FADE. Try it out before proceeding.

METHOD OF MAGIC
• Teach the InfraMIDI Equator the appropriate commands from the IR Command Center remote control which operates the selected X-10-equipped light.
• Operate the desired light(s) from the MIDI computer, sequencer, or keyboard.

That's all there is to it! You now have integrated multimedia lighting for as many lights as you wish to control.
